Dates: Please note, this class takes place over two evenings, May 16 and May 23.

Skill level: All levels welcome

Class Description: Spend two evenings embroidering and hand-stitching a book or journal cover. Inspired by a hymnal cover made in Transylvania, Romania in the ’60s, create a decorative floral pattern, embroider it on linen, and stitch the pieces together to protect a special book, journal, or day calendar.

Kit Contents: Thread (Fingering weight Pima cotton yarn), Needles, Linen fabric, sewing thread

Additional Materials Needed for the Class: Please bring a small book, journal or notebook (no larger than roughly 9 x 6 x 1 inches) that you’d like to cover for this project. You’ll receive a piece of fabric that measures 14 x 20 inches.

About Sarah Pedlow

Sarah Pedlow, artist and founder of ThreadWritten Textiles, is interested in cultural preservation, ethnic embroidery, and creating a global community of makers connected via cultural heritage skills. From 2012 – 2015 she researched Hungarian Kalotaszeg written embroidery in Transylvania, Romania and made products with women artisans. Through many trips to Hungary and Romania her love of embroidery grew, prompting travel to artist residencies in Iceland, Mexico, and this summer The Netherlands and Ukraine. Sarah teaches embroidery and net-making in the Bay Area and has given lectures for the Embroiderers Guild of America. She holds a BA from Scripps College, Claremont and an MFA from Rutgers University.

Payment: We accept PayPal and most major credit cards for class payments using the registration form below. If you would like to arrange an alternate method of payment, please email us.

Scholarship Seats: A limited number of Scholarship seats are available in most of our classes. We use an honor system on a self-identified basis for those who cannot afford the full price. If scholarship seats are offered in the class, they will be listed as one of the options under Register.

Refund Policy: Payment is due in full at the time of registration. If you need to cancel: Up until 3 days (72 hours) prior to the class, we will refund your tuition less a $25.00 processing fee. We do not offer refunds for classes cancelled with less than 3 day (72 hour) notice.  SFSNAD will make every attempt not to cancel any classes. If we need to cancel: You are entitled to either a full refund (no processing fee), or your tuition can be used for a future class of equal value within a year of the cancelled class.

Wait List: If the class is sold out, Please email us to be added to the wait list. We'll notify you right away if we have a cancellation.

Please note: on occasion it might be necessary to substitute the instructor.
