About Mary Jo Hiney
Mary Jo Hiney is the artisan owner of Mary Jo Hiney Designs, a small-scale, niche category retail and wholesale manufacturing company, producing a thorough line of hand-dyed silk ribbon and fabrics and an assortment of kits and patterns in embroidery, ribbonwork, sewing, mixed media and cartonnage categories. Mary Jo is a designer for Vogue Patterns and a Craftsy instructor, sharing her expertise in the class titled “Embroidering with Ribbon.” Mary Jo has authored many books for Jo Packham, the executive editor and founder of the “Where Women Create” magazines.

Class Description: Explore the essential stitches and nuances of Ribbon Embroidery through an imagined garden topiary design. What is important to learn with ribbon embroidery is not a vast amount of stitches, but how to work the stitches so they are effective and purposeful in a design. Besides teaching the basics of design transfer and tools, the topiary design itself showcases essential ribbon embroidery stitches, such as the ribbon stitch, lazy daisy variations, looped and ruched stitches, french knots.
Kit Contents: Hand-dyed silk ribbon, floss, beads, sequins, wool felt, hand-dyed silk noil chamois, Needles: Chenille, milliners, beading. Instructor will provide threads for hand-sewing and beading.
Equipment Needed: All materials are supplied; you may bring your own sewing kit if you like
